Wordpress 3.1 was finally released under the codename "Reinhardt" and now boast of Internal Linking features, updated performance issues and having the newest JQuery 1.4.4 installed.

WordPress 3.1 was finally released under the codename “Reinhardt” named in honor of the jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. So for those planning to start their blog for WordPress, you can download it at WordPress site. If you’re upgrading your WordPress site, just click the instant upgrade button located in your admin page. If needed, just backup your old configurations and WordPress using the tools available.

Here’s what TechieDan found out about this new version. It looks like WordPress 3.1 is more of a code cleanup and certain plugins upgraded(JQuery, TinyMCE updated) in order to make WordPress runs faster. Some of the notable ones is Internal linking when clicking the hyperlink button.

Strange for previous wordpress users. Though now click the Or link to existing content and it will show the few previous posts for internal linking.

Now instead of Copy and Paste and looking for your previous post using the Post area, you can now do it all in the Create/Edit Post area.

Slowly we will see more updates and upgrades for WordPress in terms of performance issue. Expect more updates to come in the upcoming weeks.

TechieDan would be releasing his own wordpress theme out for the public in the coming months to come. Well, after been playing with lots of free wordpress themes out there, it’s time to come out with an own creation.

As it is known, the World Wide Web offers WordPress user and developer lots and lots of customization opportunities. Though the trend now seemed to focus more on the Web 2.0 feel. There are many out there selling premium themes but if you wouldn’t want to spend much yet on a new blog you can always go to sites, for example wprex.com which offers free wordpress themes .

One of the most important things, when viewing sites which offer blog themes is to have a screenshot on the post itself. Amazingly wprex.com offers a full page view screenshots of the themes on their page itself. As of writing, TechieDan has tested one or two of those themes. In the future, wordpress themes from TechieDan would be submitted to sites like wprex.com.

Side note: Downloading a theme that requires login, authentication will deter someone to actually bothered going to the site.

So, WordPress users will be happy to know a site which offers free WordPress themes.

These few days I have been getting users registering to my WordPress as subscribers. At times I was wondering what are they doing, and I am getting subscribers. Then suddenly I noticed the names of it and the email accounts all too familiar.

After going through the Internet, I had found people with similar experiences. Though little is known then as to why they do it, but one thing for sure, I have now disabled User Registration unless needed. Unless of course one needs to login to post comments and stuffs.

Though there are some who seems to say that they got hacked because of this vulnerability in the previous WordPress versions. How true it is though, I am not sure. For now though, some safety measure could be taken. Besides since I am the only contributor and I don’t put any restrictions on my commentators, why not just lock it?

I have this problem when I upgraded from 2.6 version of WordPress to version 2.7. I can’t seem to upload anything using the flash image uploader. It has been on going since a few months back. I have searched for some solutions on the internet, but none seemed to mention about how to fix this version but version 2.5.

I then so happen to chance upon this solution on this site. But to spare you the details all you need to do is to modify your .htacess file in your server. If you really don’t know how to do that, I suggest you give the site a visit to learn it step by step.

Finally Uploader is Solved

Paste this following lines on the top in the .htacess file and you’re good to go.

#BEGIN Image Upload HTTP Error Fix
<IfModule mod_security.c>
<Files async-upload.php>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</Files>
</IfModule>
<IfModule security_module>
<Files async-upload.php>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</Files>
</IfModule>
<IfModule security2_module>
<Files async-upload.php>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</Files>
</IfModule>
#END Image Upload HTTP Error Fix

That’s all there is to it.

Just after what seemed like a few days after the beta version of WordPress 2.7.1 is out for testing, the official version or rather the approved extension of WordPress 2.7 is out. Yes, the WordPress 2.7.1 Is Out as of errr.. today, yesterday.

What’s new is that so far there are 78 fixes. That much?? Well, instead of the hard way to upgrade to 2.7.1, the guys at wordpress.org has thought of a devious way to upgrade it in an instant. Yes, now there is a superb function to enable one to just upgrade with a click of a button. Of course there is also the option to download and install it manually.

Alright so have you installed your WordPress 2.7.1 yet? Well, everyone’s hoping for the best for the upcoming WordPress 2.8 though.

For those that are hosting their blogs using WordPress, you are now going to love the new interface they have for WordPress 2.7 codenamed “Coltrane“. Yes, as of 11th December 2008, the new version of WordPress 2.7 is now out and finally it has been released.

So what are you waiting for, so far so good, the plugins installed on 2.6 are still compatible, but what I like most is the new interface and the fewer clicks needed to access certain functions. Yes, it takes time to get used to the new interface though.

To say though, WordPress 2.7 was released with beta releases for bug issues solving. If you would like to know more about WordPress 2.7 and some tutorial on how to use the new interface, you may refer to WordPress own site too. So get your WordPress 2.7 Coltrane now.

Boy, it looks like it seem that there are lots and lots of bug fixes.

Now who would have thought that there would be tonnes of bug lying around in WordPress 2.7. Looks like more like a revamp on the WordPress engine with a little tweak here and there. Once again I am impressed.

Some slight note on current WordPress 2.6 is that, at times I can upload files using the flash Uploader, so this brought me using the typical one file a time uploader. At least that’s working. So maybe they’ll create another WordPress 2.7 Beta 3 and hopefully the release date of WordPress 2.7 will be on time.

Well, I am definitely anticipating this.

ps : Wonder why though, google feedburner is giving lotsa error 500 problems these days.

It was expected at TechieDan that WordPress 2.7 would at least appear on the month of November and so it did. Luckily for TechieDan, most of the time he uses Firefox for his wordpress testing and why is it still beta? it’s for the fix for both IE and Opera browser users to hold before they can get the final release of the WordPress 2.7 final version.

Seemingly, time for me to get my hands on the WordPress 2.7 and test it out on the localhost. So you’ve got to hand it over to the guys at WordPress.org who decided to come out with this beta version before the proper release of the WordPress 2.7 on November 10.

Don’t believe it’s coming out by that time, WordPress 2.7 Beta Edition is stated right at the post here, so expect more test and tweaks as the guys/girls there serve to make WordPress users satisfied. If you’re just contented with trying out the beta version without reading the rest of it, I’ve included the link to the download file.

All you need is just to CLICK HERE!!! Happy WordPressing!

If you’re a wordpress user, you would have seen some wordpress have this function to include a thumbnail image and maybe sometimes include your Mood level.

Based on a blog at AbsoluteSpook.com, one can add in their thumbnail to the blog entry. Well, by default an automatic graphic is displayed instead. By instruction on the theme, all one need is to modify the custom fields in WordPress! Now the problem is how can one do that?

A simple explanation is go to your blog post that you wanted to modify or add the custom fields and select Custom Fields Below.

Choose a Key and the value.

Key – Name
Value – Daniel

Then add this

<?php the_meta(); ?>

Here’s how one can display too.

<ul class='post-meta'>
<li><span class='post-meta-key'>Curently Reading:
</span> Calvin and Hobbes</li>
<li><span class='post-meta-key'>Today's Mood:</span>
Jolly and Happy</li>
</ul>

There are actually many more ways to use the custom field in wordpress. If you really need to know, you can refer to the WordPress help guide for more extreme use of the Custom Field.

A vulnerability in the Snoopy library was announced today. WordPress uses Snoopy to fetch the feeds shown in the Dashboard. Although this seems to be a low risk vulnerability for WordPress users, we wanted to get an update out immediately. 2.6.3 is available for download right now. If you don’t want to download the whole release to get the security fix, you can download the following two files and copy them over your 2.6.2 installation.

wp-includes/class-snoopy.php

wp-includes/version.php

Wouldn’t that be nice? Instead of downloading the whole thing, you just need to replace the two files over your 2.6.2 installation. The post for this update can be seen here.

So if you haven’t yet do the update yet, do it now before you get yourself desecuritirized.
