WordPress 3.1 Now Officially Live

WordPress 3.1 was finally released under the codename “Reinhardt” named in honor of the jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. So for those planning to start their blog for WordPress, you can download it at WordPress site. If you’re upgrading your WordPress site, just click the instant upgrade button located in your admin page. If needed, just backup your old configurations and WordPress using the tools available.

Here’s what TechieDan found out about this new version. It looks like WordPress 3.1 is more of a code cleanup and certain plugins upgraded(JQuery, TinyMCE updated) in order to make WordPress runs faster. Some of the notable ones is Internal linking when clicking the hyperlink button.

Strange for previous wordpress users. Though now click the Or link to existing content and it will show the few previous posts for internal linking.

Now instead of Copy and Paste and looking for your previous post using the Post area, you can now do it all in the Create/Edit Post area.

Slowly we will see more updates and upgrades for WordPress in terms of performance issue. Expect more updates to come in the upcoming weeks.

HTC Hero (GSM) to Finally Receive Eclair Update

South East Asian GSM HTC Hero users, there will be a new update for HTC Hero coming and it will be done over the air (FOTA – Firmware Over The Air). HTC Hero has revealed in their official website that update will come and users are recommended to backup their data before updating this new firmware. Most probably the Eclair OS comes along with it.

Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. The new Build number after the update will be 2.73.707.91 (Singapore) & 2.73.728.91 (Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia)

Looks like a good thing after all the users of HTC Hero are waiting for a new update.

FIFA Online 2 World Cup 2010 Update

FIFA Online 2 has a new update. In lieu with the World Cup 2010 at South Africa, players can now have a chance at the World Cup with their favorite World Cup teams. Choose from Brazil, England, Argentina, Spain and many more. Your country not in the World Cup? Fret not, there are loads of other countries available to be played which includes Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Greece, Czech Republic and many more.

The splash screen will now display an African theme during prior to the Log In screen. It was understood prior to this patch, there was an error in getting to this screen due to a technical glitch. Skip this if you have no trouble updating your client and running the game.

HOW TO FIX?

Basically, clicking Yes will bring one to the Korean FIFA Online 2 Update page. Close the program and do the following.

Go into your FIFA ONLINE 2 folder\foe files and locate the following files.

ffd69457.pak
ffd80085.pak

Delete these 2 files and restart the client and your FIFA Online 2 game will be good to run.

Here are the upgrades and patches from this version.

The 2010 South Africa World Cup section can be accessed by selecting the icon on the top.

Doing so will bring one towards the World Cup module. After clicking you’ll see a screen and one of them is basically a schedule of the World Cup itself.

To play the game, one can either choose to play in Multiplayer or Single Player mode.

Click Participate to start the World Cup game and from then onwards, choose a country and the program will run do a random country insert into each groups.

Reward for Playing This?

As always playing a module like this won’t be enough without rewarding players. This will be a level up reward. Players will level up if they keep winning games to gain experience for their reward. The ultimate is a World Cup player Virtual Uniform which one can convert into a player or just sell it to the Auction Market.

This update brings alive the World Cup fever and definitely will be good for players to get to know their football team player names before the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Definitely one of the best update.

Fifa Online 2 January 2010 Update

Fifa Online 2 has finally given us players another surprise. Well, here are the new updates which have badly affected TechieDan. The first few updates for the Fifa Online 2 on January 14th 2010 is you will now be greeted with a splash screen after logging in as depicted with the screen below.

Then with the summer roster kicking in, some players will see the boot and be gone forever. An example would be A.Gaarde which TechieDan has created into a +4 player. The player is now non-existant on Fifa Online 2. I will quote from the EA Sports Official Fifa Online 2 website.

When the player has retired/passed away/ vanished from the football scene as of the last summer transfer window, the uniform card of the respective player will not be in the data base anymore.

Players that have transferred clubs, be it on permanent or loan deals, will have the status of their football club based on the last summer transfer window updated. This applies for players who have joined football clubs as free agents. This does not apply to the players in your team, only the uniform cards.

This means that a Cristiano Ronaldo Uniform Card, for example, will reflect him as a Real Madrid Player instead of a Manchester United Player. This also applies for Chelsea’s Franco Di Santo on loan to Blackburn Rovers. His uniform card will indicate him as a Blackburn player.

This changes will not have any effect on the players in your team. I.e. If your team is Real Madrid, you wont have Benzema, Kaka and other players that changed football clubs during the last summer transfer window.

So old players like Paolo Maldini would cease to exist and Kaka will now be in Read Madrid.

Another option would be the transfer of players between different managers. Though transfer can only be done with the same login name. One has to purchase a Create Additional Manager item in order to create one.

The screen would be shown as above if you have only 1 team allowed and with no Create Addtional Manager bought. As depicted by the official site, if one has a manager item, one can transfer uniform cards. The interface would look as the following.

Verdict : While it may seem that this new update benefits those with new players, upgraded old cards missing generates complaints from players with these cards. Nevertheless game play is still the same.

Updates Fifa Online 2

It’s now back to a whole new gaming experience. Fans and players and maybe new players to Fifa Online 2 will now be able to enjoy a whole new experience playing this game. A recent review of this game written here has cleared up some doubts that it will be just like any other EA Sports Fifa 98 game play.

Good news : Fifa Online 2 gave TechieDan a shock with their upcoming new patches and what a major patch it was. A whole lot new players, a few changes to the recycling options and lots of new items and functions. There are also some of the changes in the winter transfer where players changes from club to club. Winter transfer does not include the change of teams of Christiano Ronaldo and Kaka to Real Madrid though.

The new WELCOME interface makes it a breathtaking wait.

It now only takes 6 cards to recycle into a new card and there’s an option to change to any uniform card color (max Purple for a fee of 200k).

Now one can even search a player from their team using the Searching tool provided on the team management option.

WordPress 2.6.3 Released Before 2.7

After what most of us are expecting WordPress version 2.7 to be out anything end of this month, it looks like the WordPress team gave us another slightly different surprise. A new update for a possible glitch and security issue.

This is the excerpt of the release patch.

A vulnerability in the Snoopy library was announced today. WordPress uses Snoopy to fetch the feeds shown in the Dashboard. Although this seems to be a low risk vulnerability for WordPress users, we wanted to get an update out immediately. 2.6.3 is available for download right now. If you don’t want to download the whole release to get the security fix, you can download the following two files and copy them over your 2.6.2 installation.

Wouldn’t that be nice? Instead of downloading the whole thing, you just need to replace the two files over your 2.6.2 installation. The post for this update can be seen here.
