Paypal Limited Access Invoke

After starting eBay and using Paypal to pay for eBay, techieDan received an email saying that you cannot proceed to payment. Paypal has limit the account and needs to do a few verification. In short, Paypal has given limited access.

***To resolve your limitation effectively, please provide all the following
steps in one time by logging in resolution center.***

1. As we found that there may be some risk when you logged in your PayPal
account, for your security, please re-change your password and security
questions.
*** Please do not use proxy or log into your account by using a public
computer.

How to change password and security question:

1)Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/.
2)Click the “Profile” subtab.
3)Click the “Password” link in the “Account Information” column.
4)Select either “Password” or “Security Question.”
5)Click “Edit.” You may be asked to confirm ownership of the account by
answering questions based on your account information.
6)Enter your current password in the “Current Password” box.
I. Password: Enter and re-enter your new password.
II. Security Questions: Select two new security questions and enter the
answers
7)Click “Save.”

Please note:
For your own protection we recommend that you create a new password. This
password should not be used on other sites. We recommend that your password
is not a word you can find in the dictionary, includes both capital and
lower case letters, and contains at least one special character (1-9, !, *,
_, etc.).
To provide the most secure service as possible, you may be asked to
complete a Security Challenge. Simply type the characters you see into the
blank field, without spaces.

2.Proof of Address. Please provide a copy of a current utility bill. The
bill must show your name and address exactly as they appear in your PayPal
account. In place of a utility bill, we will accept a copy of a cell phone
bill, bank statement, credit card statement, tax document or any other
official documents that helps us verify your residency at the address
listed on your PayPal account.

3.Photo ID. Fax or upload a copy of your photo ID (I.E National ID/Driver’s
License/Passport). Please make the copy of this as large and as clear as
possible.

We review the received documents in order and generally it takes 3 to 5
business days to process these documents. Once we process your documents,
we will contact you by email about the status of your PayPal Account.

After reading this, I find it’s a hassle to resolve something which one have been doing for the past few months. After looking though help sites from paypal, there are many cases unresolved. The money value in paypal is not little. As far as TechieDan is able to do, he will send in the documents first thing when he reaches home.

New Google Reader Play

Google recently brought upon a new creation from their Google Reader which is Google Reader Play. Well, if you’re a user of Google Reader for your RSS needs, I am sure you would have noticed this slight notice on the top half of the main page of Google Reader.

Try clicking the “Give it a try” link. Here’s how the first page looked like.

Using CSS instead of plain HTML

For those that started studying computers or those in the 90s, most of us started learning the HOW TO BUILD A WEBPAGE with HTML. Those days, a webpage is defined by how well it was formatted and if you want fancy stuffs, the best one can get is Macromedia Flash (now Adobe Flash). Here are the old codes of the old.

By doing this, the following text becomes red. Nothing is wrong with doing things like this. Though now there exist something better which is able to format text which is CSS (Cascading Style Sheet).

Some of the books used to teach CSS

Using CSS to format a text like the above to turn to red has got it’s advantages over the old style format. One it is Web 2.0 friendly, XML friendly and also changes can be made directly from a seperate file ( .css file). Another important thing is that it’s way flexible, assigning a class to a row of text with the specific characteristics changes the overall text.

This is a simple method to show how CSS works.

For those who are into blogging and have been blogging for quite awhile, if you’re situated in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines or even Australia, most of you would have heard about Nuffnang Ad Agency. Data Migration of TechieDan.com

TechieDan.com might face a few hours downtime on the 24th of February 2010 as it’s host is doing a migration of data to another location. To know what’s the full scope of this data migration, here’s an excerpt of what’s going to happen.

This is a reminder that your Linux shared hosting services will be migrated to the new data center on the 24th Feb 2010. Please find below the additional details concerning the migration:

Actual physical server migration date / time: 9.00pm GMT+8 24 Feb 2010
Expected Interruption hours: 5 – 9 hours (9.00pm 24 Feb 2010 – 6.00am 25 Feb 2010)

1.We will power down the server at the existing data center.
2.Wrap and pack the servers nicely to avoid any hardware issue during the servers transportation to the data center (from Cyberjaya to AIMS KL data center)
3.Un-wrap the server upon our arrival at the new data center and conduct a power test at the data center staging room to ensure there’s no power issue which may possibly trip the data center’s power source. Server will be shut down once again upon the successful power test.
4.We will rack the server into the server rack and power up the server.
5.We will start the IP renumbering on the server once the server is powered-on at the server rack. We expect to take about 30-45 minutes for each server renumbering to complete.
6.The entire migration process complete.

Google Buzz Uprising February

Most of us have Facebook and Twitter accounts which are social medias to keep ourselves in touch with the online community. At times we rely on these tools that without them, we don’t seem to catch up with anything. Though Google now brings you Google Buzz, somewhat the counterpart of both Twitter and Facebook.

Google Buzz? Where can I find it? As a matter of fact, those with gmail accounts is already a Google Buzz user. Google integrated Buzz together with GMail.

By default, contacts that you have in GMail with their own respective gmail accounts would automatically follow them. As of now, many speculations are on the Internet as to what is Google Buzz is all about! Some say they rival Twitter, some say they rival Facebook, while others say they combined both Facebook and Twitter into one convenient application.

As of date of launch, Google Buzz has generated a few comments from the social internet circle. Let’s see how Google Buzz has it in a few days time.

eBay 2010 January Update – More Protection

Being a techist (self created synonym for someone who is in love with tech stuffs), after awhile you find that shopping online is way convenient. Well, some items you couldn’t get in your country, you can get it elsewhere and what better way to shop than going online. Mozilla Firefox 3.6 Out 22 Jan 2010

Amazing news, after many days or many months with Firefox 3.5 and with new patches released periodically, Mozilla has brought us FIREFOX 3.6 which is said to be loading websites 20% faster, and much more performance friendly with javascript.

Previously TechieDan was anticipating the arrival of Firefox 3.6 in this article here. The time is here.

After clicking Help > Check for Updates, I am greeted with this screen.

Then finally update is completed. Firefox requested to restart. Restart was done to welcome the splash screen of Firefox 3.6.

Here are the few new notable updates for the Firefox 3.6

Available in more than 70 languages.
Support for a new type of theme called Personas, which allow users to change Firefox’s appearance with a single click.
Protection from out-of-date plugins to keep users safer as they browse.
Open, native video can now be displayed full screen and supports poster frames.
Improved JavaScript performance, overall browser responsiveness, and startup time.
The ability for web developers to indicate that scripts should run asynchronously to speed up page load times.
Continued support for downloadable web fonts using the new WOFF font format.
Support for new CSS attributes such as gradients, background sizing, and pointer events.

After using it for the past few hours, TechieDan has no complaints. Seemingly it does what it claimed to do. One cool feature is now one can personalize their Firefox using the Persona function. Of course if you don’t have Firefox, you can get it here.

Fifa Online 2 January 2010 Update

Fifa Online 2 has finally given us players another surprise. Well, here are the new updates which have badly affected TechieDan. The first few updates for the Fifa Online 2 on January 14th 2010 is you will now be greeted with a splash screen after logging in as depicted with the screen below.

Then with the summer roster kicking in, some players will see the boot and be gone forever. An example would be A.Gaarde which TechieDan has created into a +4 player. The player is now non-existant on Fifa Online 2. I will quote from the EA Sports Official Fifa Online 2 website.

When the player has retired/passed away/ vanished from the football scene as of the last summer transfer window, the uniform card of the respective player will not be in the data base anymore.

Players that have transferred clubs, be it on permanent or loan deals, will have the status of their football club based on the last summer transfer window updated. This applies for players who have joined football clubs as free agents. This does not apply to the players in your team, only the uniform cards.

This means that a Cristiano Ronaldo Uniform Card, for example, will reflect him as a Real Madrid Player instead of a Manchester United Player. This also applies for Chelsea’s Franco Di Santo on loan to Blackburn Rovers. His uniform card will indicate him as a Blackburn player.

This changes will not have any effect on the players in your team. I.e. If your team is Real Madrid, you wont have Benzema, Kaka and other players that changed football clubs during the last summer transfer window.

So old players like Paolo Maldini would cease to exist and Kaka will now be in Read Madrid.

Another option would be the transfer of players between different managers. Though transfer can only be done with the same login name. One has to purchase a Create Additional Manager item in order to create one.

The screen would be shown as above if you have only 1 team allowed and with no Create Addtional Manager bought. As depicted by the official site, if one has a manager item, one can transfer uniform cards. The interface would look as the following.

Verdict : While it may seem that this new update benefits those with new players, upgraded old cards missing generates complaints from players with these cards. Nevertheless game play is still the same.

SVN Error on Eclipse

Using Eclipse as my Java editor, and attempting to update the desired codes and to mark the version on SVN with TechieDan’s codes has prompted this error from eclipse.

“Attempted to lock an already-locked dir svn:”

Now looking at this, nothing was updated and a solution was needed to be able to update codes. The solution is pretty simple though. After browsing through the web, it looks like that there was some synchronization errors and all one need to do is to clean up the SVN.

Right click on Desired Project > Team > Cleanup.

The following should work. If all else fails here’s the other alternative, which is to delete the lock file.

Shutdown your Eclipse.
Go to .svn folder and delete .lock file(s).

If you’re still getting some error, make sure to check for case sensitivities of file in the repository. This prevents the repository from being checked out on Windows because Windows is unable to distinguish the two same named files. Ex: abc.jpg and abc.JPG.
