IT is fast being used in lots of industry nowadays. Either because we got too lazy but I would rather term it as because we sought to find the fastest way to solve certain issues.

Developers (people like me) try to develop applications for simplified usage of certain processes. Ever heard of an automated form filling software? This is where someone can customize the layout and also keep the history of your submitted forms for claims and request?

One that TechieDan found was that every time he took medical leave, the tendencies to archive those medical billing forms were hardly done. TechieDan still remembers that his parents used to archive their old bills in physical files. Space is an issue now, so getting software to simplify this process would be great.

UB-04 software seems to be the one probable answer for this problem. At least it is also supported well on a Mac for all those Apple users. Guess form filling and archiving would not be as hassle as it us previously. There’s even a 30 days money back guarantee. Something which TechieDan does not get from most software’s that he bought. Sweet. If you need help in trying to automate this kind of process, I will definitely recommend a software like UB-04 to do your form automation and archiving.

Long gone are the days where Instagram are only good for iPhone users and this time it looks like iPhone users can’t say Instagram is only for their use.

Users of Android systems can now go to their market or as the new one mentioned as Google Play to download the desired app. If you required it to be install later, just click the image above to get the Instagram for you Android.

Note: Instagram for Android caters for newer devices with Android 2.2 and those that support OpenGL ES2. So do check if your device supports it. Although you can also check it when you go to Instagram download area to see if your phone supports it.

Visual Basic 6 Cannot Use Access 2010

Visual Basic 6 Is able to connect to Access 97. Though if you need to change the database structure of the current mdb file and then reconvert back to Access 97, you need Access 2003 to convert it back to the old one after change to 2003 or 2010.

Using Visual Basic 6 has its limitations. TechieDan has learnt that when trying to support a system which is deemed obsolete and replaced with the better and newer Visual Basic.Net. Of course, there are still older systems that exist and Visual Basic 6 is definitely one of them.

Visual Basic 6 connects using Microsoft Access 97 and this is where the complication begins.

TechieDan has Microsoft Access 2010 and Visual Basic 6 installed on his work desktop. Surprisingly he is modifying an old program to display certain values using Crystal Report on top a Visual Basic 6 platform. Microsoft Access 97 has the file extension .mdb but since TechieDan only has Microsoft Access 2010, he does not have access rights to change the structure and properties of the selected database.

Using Microsoft Access 2010 allows update and insertion of data though anything to do with the structure of the old access 97 format cannot be done. Access 2010 allows saving to different versions of Access which is 2000 and 2003. Sadly Visual Basic 6 does not support these types. Thus needing to convert to 97 format and getting support from Microsoft Help seems to suggest that too.

Refer Below.

You can convert a database that contains Rich Text Memo fields (Memo fields that have the Text Format property set to Rich Text). However, versions of Access earlier than Access 2007 do not interpret the field as Rich Text. If any Rich Text formatting is present in the Access 2007 data, the text displays with HTML tags instead of the formatting in earlier versions of Access, as in the following example.

Solution

There is no way around that with Access 2010 converting to Access 97 format. Of course there are other ways out there with other third party programs to do the conversion. If you are still looking for a way using Microsoft’s product, either get the old MS Office 97 or get the Access 2003 to do the conversion for you.

Thoughts

Backward compatibility seems not to be encouraged by Microsoft. Though, if only the companies involved using these software would actually have people with the correct skill sets to upgrade. Anyone who has a better idea of solving this, do drop your comment below.

Thinking of getting your website to be visited faster and more efficient in every part of the world? Well, one can use a Content Delivery Network to help speed up the network and thus increase visitor count. Cachefly helps prevent those network latency one may face.

TechieDan.com has been around since 2008. After being in the long run in the market, traffic for this blog has been pretty decent. As this blog is hosted under a host provider, traffics are directed towards wherever the blog is hosted located.

I had complaints or rather suggestions that the website could be slow in certain parts of the world. Looks like, it is time to dwell on some possible solutions..

Before I go on ahead, how does one actually get a lot of website hits? A technical blog usually has more hits from search engines. You need to brush up on SEO techniques to be able to achieve the target you wanted. After doing so, what else? This is where TechieDan.com is moving forward now.

Ever noticed why sites like Google provides fast searching queries?

Ever wondered why your emails from Hotmail, Gmail or all delivering your emails faster?

Now can you imagine if they are all hosted on a server and only one server?

That is what they have been doing; ensure that the customers and users will be able to cut latency as they browse through their site. Unlike google which has their own different servers in different parts of the world, I doubt that most of us normal bloggers and writers would be able to afford it. This is where alternative solutions would be to locate a company like Cachefly Content Delivery Network, using their besthop traffic management which directs traffic to the closest server which cannot be matched by traditional hosting.

I have gone through Cachefly‘s website and had a look at their demo and I must say I am mighty impressed with the architecture layout of how do they resolve the internet latency. A CDN (Content Delivery Network) is definitely going to improve the speed in retrieving the data but the question now is whether does one require this service?

Of course this I would leave to each of his/her/company needs. The lowest pricing I saw was a $0.03/GB which is good, but also with a minimum purchase of 10GB which only cost like $0.30?

Recommendation

I personally think that this is more suitable for high traffic websites which comes from country that your website is not hosted at. Globalized companies would benefit more of a doubt so getting faster response time for the user will definitely improve the interest of a potential client. This is definitely one of the fastest way to increase website hits as users will want to visit a site which does not wait for packets to be sent and receive at a slow rate.

Love the caption!

Internet Filtering is a swift solution to prevent unwanted websites for your kids and also the organization. Malwares, Spywares, Pornography websites, P2P, Phishing sites and anonymous proxies.

Internet is now not really a comfort to many people, it is now like part and parcel of everyone’s basic life. Well, more or less to those who can afford a tool (PC, smartphones, etc.) that could go online. Of course, most of us web surfers here would be able to acknowledge to that. One thing though, Dan here knows how to filter his surfing from going into unwanted sites.

Sometimes thing happens unexpectedly

Though, little can be said about the kids. Just a few days back, one of the kids went surfing on the internet only to run into an unwanted web link that when clicked would run a install feature which would have been disastrous to our very own TechieDan. It would have installed the dreaded Trojan horse file that could have most of the information leaked.

Seriously, Dan has thought that this needs to have a filtering ability. Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox have their own filtering technique to prevent kids from accessing sites like pornography. We all thought that this would be enough. No matter how, the inbuilt detection from the browser still has its limitations. It is also a problem for the average surfers where websites which deemed normal suddenly turn up to be a problematic website and as such it is also not only a problem for the kids but also for the average public that surf the internet.

What steps could be taken?

So it is time to look for some other sources of internet filtering. One such example would be NetSpective. Well, third party internet filtering appliance like NetSpective seems to be a swift solution for most of these problems. We might be IT pros but once again it would be better to be safe than sorry. It would be unbelievable if TechieDan would have failed because of situations like these.

If up till now you have been unsure as to what internet filtering meant, have a look at the brief description here.

Internet filters protect children and teens from questionable and malicious internet content, which makes them a must for schools, libraries, rec centers, churches or any place with child care or after school programs.

An advanced web filtering solution can also help your business increase employee productivity, decrease security risks and threats and maximize your network’s capacity.

I want to protect the organization

As above I believe most readers here would have been from an organization looking for solutions to their problems. Remember that employers should learn to minimize risks for their organization and thus it is important to obtain a security feature as such. Just a simple mistake by one employee could jeopardize the whole intranet in the company. As an employer we would not want this to happen right?

So what about your thoughts then? Still considering whether to have an internet filter installed on the network? Consider no more, time to eliminate those pesky problems.

In short, internet filtering is not only for the kids, it also applies to us adults in our every daily life. Time for some filtering to be done. Get rid of those pesky annoying ads, pornograhy websites and malicious malwares and spywares.

ERP software solutions have been the necessity of companies all around to manage their resources. ERP might be more suitable for companies that are mid range and higher range as there are many departments to manage. Does your company has one?

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is as mentioned by wikipedia.

Systems integrate internal and external management information across an entire organization, embracing finance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and service, customer relationship management, etc. ERP systems automate this activity with an integrated software application. Their purpose is to facilitate the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manage the connections to outside stakeholders

Of course in simple terms it is just a software to manage the resources in the company in terms of finance, human resource management, project management and so forth. This is what exactly a company needs. Of course, if TechieDan plans to start a company too, it might not be feasible but once he is stable getting a ERP software like this would be simply worth it.

Suffice to say, there are few ERP Software around the Internet. If you are the CEO or the managing director of your company, how do you manage without it? Here is one such software from TGI.

This software allows these few characteristics to be done as below.

One is able to view account information, download documentation and system updates, track open issues, view E21 modification history.

E21?

Well, let’s just say it is a special name for its software. With a software name Enterprise 21 ERP System, it might have 21 functions? Well, what I got from the website though is that there are tonnes of function such as viewing account information, download documentation and system updates, track open issues, view E21 modification history and many more.

There is that E21 again. Well, it looks like I have to try it to know what it means.

There are lots of other ERP software of course, there is no harm trying this one first though. At least the background check was the company involved in developing this software was founder in 1990. Now that is about 21 years of software development.

Mozilla Firefox 9 is up to date and definitely going to be major impact as the year ends. Similarly, it looks like there was an increase in speed, flexibility and security as of version to date.

TechieDan loves the new Mozilla Firefox 9.0.1 that was just unleashed recently as of date of writing. Well, considerably there was significant increase of speed in this new browser. It was only just June when Firefox 5.0 was released to the public and we now finally have version 9.

The browser looks promising as Firefox greeted its users with a new splash screen which is more of their color. What is new?

Added Type Inference, significantly improving JavaScript performance

Improved theme integration for Mac OS X Lion

Added two finger swipe navigation for Mac OS X Lion

Added support for querying Do Not Track status via JavaScript

Added support for font-stretch

Improved support for text-overflow

Improved standards support for HTML5, MathML, and CSS

Fixed several stability issues

Fixed several security issues

What features TechieDan was more concerned of was the one highlighted in bold. With the surprising new HTML5 garnering more support, it will be great when one day we can make do with all the obsolete HTML code style.

Up till now Firefox has been the most used browser for developers due to its capabilities to incorporate plugins like Firebug (help designers to locate CSS, Javascript problem), Youtube Downloader (plugin to download movies from the web) and many more. It has been a major year as the year 2011 will close in another 2 days time and thank you Mozilla for finally releasing the latest release before the close.

Once again, Happy New Year to all the readers here.

A blog can be a great tool for emphasizing what one wanted their readers to read, to learn and to entertain. Here in TechieDan, this blog aims to help its readers to learn about technology and also problem solving that the writer of this blog is facing on his everyday technical life which could be applied to others.

Though when TechieDan was first started, it needed the exposure and one of the ways to do that is to use a social networking tool to enhance its stature amongst other blogs out there. This also helps to drive the traffic towards the blog. In the first few years of opening this blog, there were no prominent social networking tools. Those days, relying on SEO is a major way of getting the proper scoop of the public.

One of tools that I would recommend is http://www.rockthepost.com. After browsing through the site, other than the normal usual blogger tool, it also helps both beginning online and offline entrepreneurs to gain the necessary . One of the highlights of this portal is its potential to reach out to people without the necessity of going through another middle party, thus removing the underlying cost that comes with it. Unlike some tools which I have used and are biased towards traffic and page ranks of the specific sites, this mentioned tool is great as it creates equal opportunities to everyone who is in.

Now what do I mean by that? In order to start a project, one needs a group of people to make it work. This is where I think that RockThePost.com excels. Team members are grouped together from this site and then slowly the project grows (of course some just given up the project) and that is how this is not only a social networking tool, it is also a business networking tool. Of course, if you need anyone to help to formulate something for your site, this is also one of the best places to look for. Though one thing about this, is that sometimes it will get too cluttered.

Who knows, maybe in the future TechieDan.com could be a site to relate to each other technical people out there. Who knows? If I really do that, I might need to assemble a team, so I guessed this is the platform which I would most likely use.

Android SDK installer shows Java SE Development Kit (JDK) not found. It just would not let me click next even though I have a JDK installed. Some bugs found on the Android SDK but simple steps for a solution for this.

If you have problems installing Android SDK, please do a an initial check and make sure you have the prerequisite requirements. Make sure you have a Java SDK installed which one can get from it here.

Now after downloading Android SDK (for Android developers and also initially for those wanting to root their Android phones), this is the initial screen.

Following that, click the Next button which the following screen should appear.

What is happening? After checking, it looks like the JDK was already installed on the machine. Something is not right here. Now here comes the fun part, click the Back button which should appear to the first screen and then click Next again. The screen which initially showed theJava SE Development Kit (JDK) not found is different now.

Oh, it is a bug in Android SDK Installer. This has got to be a funny mishap in the programming codes but then it is not something to be going gaga over though.

After this phase, just follow the screen and everything should be done.

Summary of the installation

Simple steps to follow.

Click Next > Back > Next

Firefox 5 now officially launched on 21st June 2011 and plugins like Echofon and Firebug are fully compatible.

Finally Firefox 5 was officially launched on June 21st 2011 (yes old news to most of you). With this finally new innovation and new version, there is bound to be more upcoming features to be looked at for Firefox 6.

Of course, unlike the Beta version, most plugin writers has already updated their version to support this new browser and version. Even Echofon and Firebug now fully compatible with Firefox 5.0 which is definitely a plus as that was what kept TechieDan from using Firefox 5 until these plugins are compatible.
