Alexa Ranking Dramatic Shift

Written by techieDan on April 17, 2008 – 8:56 am

It was 8:30am in the morning 17th April 2008(to the States it might be 8:30pm 16th April) and I logged in into my Personal Computer. Guessed what, I was shocked to see my Alexa Ranking dropped from 700k to 2 million ++. Oh my, what is happening??

I think that Alexa has started to change their ranking for webs and blogs alike. I see a sudden dramatic change to the alexa ranking that I was trying to search for an answer on the world wide web. Seems so far not a tid bit mention about it.

Either they have gone the google ranking way and decided to modify and enhance their codes. Or they perhaps had some glitch in their code and debugging it. Well, imagine from 700k to 2 million drop is a lot. I would go for the new codes that they are implementing. Let’s wait for more news from Alexa before we confirm it yeah.

Slight Update : Looks like it was announced on Alexa Blog with the new Alexa Ranking system.

Some excerpts from the site….

aggregate data from multiple sources to give you a better indication of website popularity among the entire population of Internet users.

You gave us many other suggestions as well, and we are working hard to implement them. We won’t tell any secrets just yet, but you can expect to see new features rolled out over the coming weeks and months.

Looks like we can look forward to a new style of rank for Alexa Rank

Google PR Reconsideration

Written by techieDan on March 6, 2008 – 11:49 pm

I’ve heard of the numerous rumors. Yes, people who has been doing paid postings and excessively doing it has been slapped with the google PR. They have been slapped wth a PR0 thus reducing their chances to do paid postings. Well, how does one get back their Page Rank after that?

Some bloggers even go to the extend that they wanted to abandon their website all due to this. So now they wanted to get back their Page Rank. How do they do it? TechieDan will now show you the steps and information.

If you’re seriously considering to get back you Page Rank, do the following.

  • If you’re doing paid posting, clean up your links once again and add the rel=”nofollow” tag.
  • Avoid selling links on your site, or if you have to, make it minimal
  • Login to Google.com and request for consideration once again.

While requesting for consideration, write a reason as to why you’re requesting consideration and what steps you did. Hope this helps. If there are any other tips, don’t mind posting it here!

Meta Tags For Blog

Written by techieDan on December 27, 2007 – 5:22 am

Creating meta tags for your blog must be very defined. Some sources say that meta tags aren’t that much of a use with the bots crawling all over the place to search for your sites and index it.

Well, basically having meta tags is bound to help spiders and bots to crawl your webpage/blog easier. Why is it so? These tags allow better indexing by robot-driven search engines, such as AltaVista, Infoseek.

So What Does a Meta Tag Looks Like?

Some sites just explained the reason why meta tag was needed but didn’t really give an example of a meta tag format. Well, currently I am doing a Meta Tag Generator for your usage (may take some time), but if you’re lazy to wait here is a sample Meta Tag Generator for you people out there. While there’s also a Meta Tag plugin for Wordpress , which you can insert as a plugin for your wordpress blogs.

Speaking of which how does a Meta Tag looks like… Here’s an example from a blog.

<meta name=”generator” content=”WordPress 2.3.1″ />
<meta name=”keywords” content=”weird, danielctw, travel, perth, redang, blog,photo, food” />
<meta name=”description” content=”daniel blogs about his travels, reviews and findings of his weird weird surroundings” />
<meta name=”author” content=”danielctw” />

This is just a simple meta tag format. Another meta tag from another blog.

<meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html; charset=UTF-8″ />
<meta name=”distribution” content=”global” />
<meta name=”robots” content=”follow, all” />
<meta name=”language” content=”en, sv” />
<meta name=”author” content=”Amitabh Shukla - www.ygosearch.com” />
<meta name=”Theme URL” content=”YGoSearch - www.ygosearch.com/seoblog ” />
<title> satkuru.com</title>
<meta name=”generator” content=”WordPress 2.3.1″ />

Well, if you’re good in programming, one can generate the meta tags according to page, archives and page title. Meta Tag Generator is still under progress, so adding a few final touches to help in creating the meta tags.

Submit Blog To Google

Written by techieDan on December 26, 2007 – 2:33 am

So you’ve started a new blog or a new site! Is it worth the wait? Well, after a week you still don’t see your webpage being indexed by Google thus not displaying on their search Engine?

If you really wanted to start indexing your page, for Google you can submit your web link to google themselves. Instead of waiting for spiders /bots to come crawling your page later, submitting your blog is like a sure way for them to crawl. Personally, it wouldn’t matter if one didn’t submit at all. Though time might be the factor. If you really wanted to submit to more sites, how about submitting to Yahoo too.

As in most blog engines, for example Wordpress. Wordpress submits your URL automatically unless one disabled it. With things like RSS feeds, one can submit and ping other search engines using PingoMatic. This not only help your blog to be updated with the latest post but also ensure that it’s faster available to the public.

In other words to gather a strong search engine site searching, one needs to submit his/her url by registering with a site. Another way of doing this is by ‘claiming’ your blog on Technorati. So here you have it, one of the easiest way to do it.
