Doing a factory reset but wanted to save your contacts to be imported later. Just follow these simple steps on your HTC (or HTC Hero) and you are done with it.

After using the HTC Hero for nearly 2 years, it seems that this phone really has some issues on memory space with every application installed only on the phone memory. It was also found out that one of the most disk space consumed was the contacts and also the sms/mms that were on the phone.

So in short, what can one do to clear the unnecessary usage of space. Do a factory reset? Well, it works but maybe just before you do that you would want to backup your contacts that are on the phone (yes, as some saved their contacts on the phone.. one of them would be me).

Surprisingly, after searching the web for solutions, most gave solutions of downloading an application which to me is tedious and unnecessary. The simplest way would be as followed

On your menu, select People

Press MENU and select IMPORT/EXPORT

Export the phone contacts to SD card (You can choose the option from your phone or your SIM)

That is all there is to it. Saving your contacts is easy. Now just backup your contacts and get it ready for import the next time you wanted to.

South East Asian GSM HTC Hero users, there will be a new update for HTC Hero coming and it will be done over the air (FOTA – Firmware Over The Air). HTC Hero has revealed in their official website that update will come and users are recommended to backup their data before updating this new firmware. Most probably the Eclair OS comes along with it.

Here’s the screenshot of the new update being announced at http://www.htc.com/sea/support.aspx.

In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your HTC Hero. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Build number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.73.707.91 (Singapore) & 2.73.728.91 (Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia)
Update Information: Firmware over-the-air (FOTA) client update & YouTube player Update.
Note：Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. For any questions, please contact us via http://www.htc.com/www/CA_Hotline.aspx

Looks like a good thing after all the users of HTC Hero are waiting for a new update.

Are you a proud owner of HTC Hero. Did you know that this phone is one of the finest Android Phone up to date! Now did you know that the HTC Hero can function as a USB Modem? Here are some steps you have to take.

Considering the HTC Hero has the ability to act as a USB Modem, now one can online anywhere provided your telco has 3G or you’re trying to connect to a wireless network using your non-wifi capable notebook (who still has it though?). Highly applicable to those wanting to connect using 3G, this setup is imminent.

What are the steps to connect to setup the HERO as a USB Modem?

Before continuing, here are some major steps you need to take and download before continuing. Download HTC Sync software for the HTC Hero from the HTC main site. Install it and ready to go.

Steps

Once HTC Sync is installed, on the Hero device.

Browse to Settings –> Wireless Controls and enable Mobile Network Sharing.

Now connect the Hero to the PC via USB cable. Windows will detect the new hardware automatically and install an “HTC Remote NDIS Network Adapter”

Simple? You can now use your HTC Hero now as a Modem. Trouble is that maybe your Windows can’t locate the drivers specifically to automatically install the HTC Remote NDIS Network Adapter. So in order to save your time to look for the drivers, here are the links to download either the 32 bit or the 64 bit drivers.

HTC Hero 64 Bit Drivers (Vista 64 Bit)
HTC Hero 32 Bit Drivers (Windows XP, Vista 32 Bit)

So this saves a lot of time and finally your HTC Hero is good to go.

Notes: Will add more information about the HTC Hero in the coming future. A new category is now created.

With technology moving at a fast pace, I wasn’t surprised when they can now have 32GB of storage in a super small thumb drive. Well, gone were the floppy discs and giant LDs. After losing both my 4GB and 2GB Kingston different generation thumb drives, I decided to compensate myself with a bigger storage of an 8GB Kingston Data Traveler Thumb Drive.

In the world of mini pen/thumb drives, Kingston still does it well with it’s different generations of drives and design. This current design though makes it all stylish and yes, it comes in pink in color too for those that love this color. To those who opt for the 8GB thumb drive, the only color is PINK and I must say it strikes a very good color matching with the silver outer layer.

It’s a sad thing though, it wouldn’t be like my recent 2GB thumb drive which is waterproof as it doesn’t come with a cap.

Recommendation

Go for this design if you love the different designs. As there is no cap, there’s no way it’s going to survive the washing machine this time around. With it’s compact size, it fits right into my wallet, thus I won’t go losing it like I used to.

In the digital world, lots of us are in need of digital storage. Gone were the days of gigantic hard disk to store our needed work. Now it’s all in memory cards, SD Cards even in Compact Flash cards. Though there are also bigger alternatives like the portable hard disk which can go up to a few Terrabytes.

Though, in the camera world, nothing beats having faster card to synchronise it together with the camera. Sandisk gets the nod for this with it’s popular Extreme series. For a storage card that reads 200x and 30MB/s, it will be a steal for camera and photography enthusiast. No worries of buffer time and this will at least give more time to the user.

Now after what seems to be a rumored model of Nikon, Nikon finally after few days of rumors, it’s now going to be out.

The Nikon D5000 is out now and what a new revelation to entry level DSLR users and those venturing into new DSLR models. It boast of HD capable video recording quality and most importantly, a different major appearance compared to the other Nikon sets is the swivel mode of the live preview.

Some specifications worth noted
Focal Point : 11 focus points (1 cross-type sensors)
Timer : 2, 5, 10, and 20 s
LCD : 2.7 ” TFT LCD
Bracketing
Uses the Multi CAM 1000 AF module, as with D90
4FPS continuous
viewfinder grid
720p/24

Click HERE to read more about the specifications

Author’s note

To me, I find it disturbing. It seems entry level deserved a boost but now it seems like it’s trying to be more like an all into one gadget. Now DSLR is not about taking photos but having more and more video functions like the swivel mode.

Nevertheless it still serve it’s purpose as a starting point for new users to DSLR and beginners alike. Thumbs up for Nikon and have your heads up for their rumored Nikon D400 upcoming towards the end of the year.

Nikon has decided to surprise Nikon DSLR Users once again. What now?? Ever since the introduction of the new G lens of the f/1.4G 50mm with autofocus build into it (the price though was the main factor that people still stick to their old f/1.4D), it seems that those with the 35mm f/1.8D is going to be surprise with this new inclusion.

After what seemed to be rumors has now been proven true with Nikonians.org already giving us a glimpse of this amazing new lens. This new lens is the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G. Now D40, D40x and D60 users would be glad this lens would be coming onto shores after March 2009.

Estimated price is lesser than USD200 which means a better bargain. Now what more can one ask for, for a new portrait lens for the DX format cameras of Nikon.

Though now I wished I didn’t get my 50mm f/1.4D and instead and waited for this 35mm f/1.8G.

Here are the excerpts of the mentioned lens.

Weighing in at a mere 200 g (7 oz) the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G is an 8 element lens offering a fast maximum f/1.8 aperture, and the suggested retail is below $200 USD.

Edit : Realised an error in my post, it’s a DX format lens instead of a FX format lens.

It so happens that I was going to blog about this amazing product that somehow someone called me on the phone regarding a USB wireless adapter that he/she just bought which also has the same thing. The Tenda USB Wireless Adapter.

Previously I had another review on another USB WiFi adapter under Aztech, question is why would I get another USB adapter. Simple, I have another PC to test it on. Speaking about Tenda USB WiFi adapter, it looks so much cooler with it’s black body and elegant with it’s own stand. It’s also compatible with Windows XP and Vista.

This brand is not as well known as the other leading brands as the brand comes directly from China, but so far so good, it has served me well. Signals picked up by this WiFi adapter seems to be strong nonetheless and sometimes I wonder not everything ‘unbrandified’ should be labeled as bad. Though speaking of warranty, that would be an issue.

If you’re looking for a cool WiFi adapter for your PC, get Tenda. Installation is simple though the menu might also appear in Chinese Characters. The plus of it is, it is also cheaper compare to the rest which is only at a mere price of RM25. Now who says your PC can’t get wireless. All that at a cost of RM25.

A wireless adapter is just like what is supposed to function as. The installation of the device is fairly simple with an instruction manual. All I need was a CD with the device driver and the thing is finally installed on the PC.

How does the wireless adapter functions is that there should be a wireless connection somewhere, thus making this device picks up the signal for it to be able to function. So far the Aztech Wireless Adapter is able to pick up faint range. My reviews on this model and brand is so far so good. The good thing is that they do give an USB extender cable.

Before my wifi modem actually came to my house, TechieDan was actually using a wired connection between his computers and his other laptops at home. Well, the rest used by other family members of course. So the whole thing was a a wired connection which is linked by one device called the Switch. Most people have their modems with built in router which supports up to 4 ports. Mine didn’t have one so I bought a switch instead. It worked perfectly fine for me.

The ArtNet 8 Ports Switch is just a simple device which just act as a connector between network lines and the modem. In other words, it doesn’t have the functionality of a router which can limit the amount of bandwidth used.

So having a look at the back of the switch, you’ll noticed the 8 ports. Basically they all have the same function. There is no separate port for the modem to connect to. If you really need extension to your network cabling needs, get a switch. Of course, would rather recommend you to go wireless.

But then, if one really need a stable faster transfer speed between networks, yes, opt for cable instead.
