There are some WP plugins that allow you do stuff with your registered users so it's a good idea to have subscribers and let people register for your blog. I always allow new users to register and set their level at subscriber.  Then I install an email press plugin that allows me to send emails to them whenever a new post is uploaded or when I create a newsletter or other types of promos that I want my subscribers to read.
