Cannot Enable View Hidden Files

Written By: techieDan on January 7, 2009 One Comment

Back then I was infected with the DREADED IRRITATING HEAP41A VIRUS, which does this stupid POP UP whenever I open my Firefox application.

I DON’T HATE MOZILLA BUT USE IE OR ELSE

Well, I forgot to mentioned though that there is this one small step which needs to be done. Though it can also be looked upon as another view in case your View Hidden Files cannot be enabled no matter if you already clicked it before.

It seems that your registry has been changed by this virus. So here’s the solution for it.

1. Click Start > Run > type regedit
2. Here expand to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE
\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\
CURRENTVERSION\POLICIES\EXPLORER
3. in the right-side pane check for the DWORD value NoFolderOptions
4. Create a new DWORD value by right-clicking NEW > DWORD
if the value is not there.
5. Create a name ‘NoFolderOptions” and press Enter
if the value is not there.
6. Double-click the entry and set the value to 0
7. Open any folder and see if Folder Options is there.
If it is still not there then Log Off and Log in again or make a restart

Now this should be able to solved that problem but also make sure to check for any spywares if you haven’t done so.

My PC is once again affected by certain spyware and I find that the above solution doesn’t always work. Here’s another solution I manage to find.

Method 2:

1. Click Start -> Run (or press Windows key + R)
2. Type regedit and click OK.
3. Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL

4. Look at the CheckedValue key… This should be a DWORD key. If it isn’t, delete the key.
5. Create a new key called CheckedValue as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1.
6. The Show hidden files & folders check box should now work normally.
